Dynamo Gets a Head Start on AMNGR-Murman

Why is the Russian season starting so early this year? For a reason I have been unable to ascertain, Dynamo Moscow has three games scheduled in October, all at home, while no other club begins play until November 11. Dynamo kicks off the season today at Krylatskoye against "Arctic Maritime Oil and Gas Explorers" (AMNGR is the Russian acronym) from Murmansk, which has also inexpicably changed their name to AMNGR-Murman.

This match should be a cakewalk for Dynamo; their next two opponents - Start Nizhny Novgorod and Raketa Kazan - should stack up better, but not much better. Before the season even starts for other clubs, Dynamo should have a nine-point cushion to work with after three easy victories.

In other Russian news, the Russian Bandy Federation has just signed a deal with KOSA, a Swedish manufacturer of bandy equipment, allowing teams to display the company's logo on their uniforms. This is not a sponsorship deal; because KOSA is such a ubiquitous symbol in the sport, it simply means that players can now use equipment that has the logo prominently displayed.

This has certainly been some exciting news.
